Orthodontics can create beautiful smiles and faces at any age. From correcting extreme crowding in young children, to realigning the bite in older adults suffering from TMJ symptoms, orthodontics can be used to correct a variety of different conditions in all age groups. And regardless of the reason for treatment, the outcome is always a more attractive smile that not only looks better, but is healthier too.
When we say traditional orthodontics, we’re really referring to metal braces, one of the most tried and true treatments in all of dentistry. Traditional braces work like they always have: a specially designed wire applies a gentle force to the teeth in order to shift them into the proper alignment. The wire is held onto the teeth using brackets that are bonded to each tooth.
With braces, we’re able to address a vast array of orthodontic issues ranging from very simple to the most complex. , And due to advances in the engineering of the brackets, modern-day braces are now smaller, sleeker, and more comfortable than ever. .
We understand, however, that many people (especially our adult orthodontic patients) may not be so keen on wearing traditional metal brackets and wires. In these cases, we also offer treatment with ceramic, tooth-colored brackets for the front teeth. These ceramic brackets are bonded to each tooth just like the metal brackets, but they are barely noticeable. This allows our patients to take advantage of all of the benefits of traditional orthodontics, without any of the worry that everyone notices their braces. It’s truly a win-win!
If you’ve always wanted to straighten your teeth but have avoided doing so because you didn’t want to get braces, then say hello to Invisalign! This treatment eschews the traditional wire and bracket system for a series of clear plastic aligner trays. Their sleek and subtle appearance will completely blend with your smile, making them entirely unnoticeable. And, when you want to eat, brush your teeth, or attend a special event, , you can simply take them out at your convenience, helping you to straighten your smile on your own terms.
